Notes from “American Idols: Who Do You Love?” by Adam Hamilton, Leawood United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, June 22, 2008
God has called us to be a Holy people, living a life belonging completely to God. In such a life, personal pleasure or personal freedoms should come second to building up brothers or sisters in Christ. Thus, I should think about how my actions affect someone else.
Living as Holy People means that my body is a Holy Temple. Thus, I should ask myself what is at the center of my life? Is it power, money, a building, myself, materialism, etc.? By putting the wrong thing on the throne, I can destroy my life and potentially the lives of those around me. Things are not right in my world when I have the wrong god on my throne.
As I contemplate this message, I need to remember
- It’s not about me
- It’s not about a particular chuch
- It’s about keeping Christ at the center of my life and keeping God on my throne
God, I offer my life to you,
Be at the center of my life
Be on the throne of my temple
Help me to honor you and to live for you.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.
